"Knucklebones"

 

I’ve been working on an edition for the PrintOcracy print exchange coming up at Asheville BookWorks in September. The theme this year is “PLAY!” so I approached the project by playing around with imagery on the press instead of working from a pre-determined design. The jacks and balls were printed on a Vandercook SP-15 from flexicut. I used transparent inks with a little metallic ink mixed in, and the paper is thin, translucent flax I’d made in San Antonio earlier this year. The title is one of many alternate names for the game of jacks, in this case referring to the historic use of bones from the toes of sheep as jacks.
