My experiments in the paper studio led to this project. It's a large scale (18" x 24") unbound book, created with sumi ink, watercolor, and dye, done entirely on paper that I made. The covers are flax and the interior sheets are abaca. I had originally envisioned more stages in the life cycle of this invented species; I may add to it next semester.

Love this, Karen! What causes the puckering - it makes it look like stitching on a light fabric. Really good stuff!!!
Thanks, Claire! The paper is really thin so when I added watercolor it warped in interesting ways - I let it do this for a bit and then dry it flat under weight. The reverse sides of some pages turned out better than the front!
