For this piece I was inspired by fungal colonies: the individual "organisms" appear to exist independently on the surface, while a unified network of connections is revealed below the surface. I wanted to create a tension between man-made and more organic materials by using metal in combination with handmade paper and thread. I was really out of my comfort zone on this; it was a very different and challenging experience since I haven't worked with these materials or done much three-dimensional work previously.
